THE INFLUENCE OF SELF-CONFIDENCE ON SPEAKING LEARNING OUTCOME AT STAIN MAJENE

Abstract
The researcher found that many students admitted to having difficulties when speaking English due to several factors, one of which was self-confidence. The researcher also saw this from school to college when observing friends. This incident made the researcher conclude that there is a link between self-confidence and speaking learning outcome. This Research aims to determine the influence of self-confidence on students' speaking learning outcome and the factors that influence the level of self confidence of 5th-semester Tadris English STAIN Majene students. This research uses a mixed method that uses 30 samples to fill out a self-confidence questionnaire for quantitative methods, then conducts purposive sampling techniques after students fill out the questionnaire to determine respondents in the interview session for qualitative methods totaling 10 respondents. The results showed that after hypothesis testing using SPSS 23, it was found that self-confidence did not affect students' speaking learning outcome. Some students have high self-confidence and have good learning outcome. Some students have low self-confidence, but their learning outcome are also good. This is related to high and low self-confidence, which is also influenced by a supportive environment, careful preparation, bullying revenge, and personality changes. Meanwhile, students with low self-confidence are influenced by Anxiety, Lack of practice, and Difficulty concentrating. In addition, Researcher also found that their excellent learning outcome were caused by the learning environment, watching films, social media, and lots of practice.
