Abstract
ABSTRACT Researcher : Selvi Reg. Number: 10256121033 Title : The Implementation of Spenpatly English Extracuricullar Activity in Increasing Students’ Grammar Ability at SMP Negeri 4 Luyo Grammar is an essential aspect of learning English because it forms the foundation for constructing correct sentences. However, grammar learning in formal classrooms is often limited by time constraints and a crowded curriculum. To address this issue, SMP Negeri 4 Luyo developed the SPENPATLY English extracurricular program as a flexible, interactive, and enjoyable non-formal learning platform. This study aims to describe the implementation of SPENPATLY extracurricular activities and to identify their advantages in improving students’ grammar skills. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that SPENPATLY is implemented consistently yet flexibly by applying the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Project-Based Learning (PBL) approaches through discussions, educational games, role plays, and the use of visual media. These strategies not only increase students’ grammar ability, particularly tenses, but also foster motivation and encourage active participation. The study further shows that SPENPATLY has six main advantages: improving students’ grammar ability, providing a supportive environment, implementing interactive learning strategies, using individual approaches and continuous motivation, applying a peer teaching method, and integrating humor in educational games. Overall, SPENPATLY serves as a supportive activity that strengthens students’ grammar competence while promoting meaningful, effective, and enjoyable English learning, both in formal classrooms and as preparation for further education.
