Title : Understanding the Mismatch of English Content in the Learning Process of Cultural Art Subject
This research aims to find out what the factors and impacts of English content mismatch are in cultural art subject. The subject of this study were teacher and students of Class XI A and B at one of the Madrasah Aliyah in Majene Regency. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research method used was qualitative, employing data collection techniques in the form of interviews, checklist observations, and documentation of student assignments. The findings showed that educational background, lack of attention to lesson plans, and teachers being reassigned to other subjects contributed to the mismatch between the teaching materials and the language used during instruction. In addition, teachers' concerns about maintaining their English proficiency led to the frequent use of English in learning, which often did not match students' language proficiency or the cultural content. The impact of this mismatch is that students experience difficulties in understanding cultural arts materials, decreased motivation and interest, divided focus, reduced engagement, and gaps in understanding among students. This study concludes that there is a need for a balanced approach to the use of English in cultural arts learning, where local culture and students' language needs are given more attention.
