Title
: A Comparative Study on Students' Interest in Learning
Foreign Language: English and Arabic
One of the phenomena that occurs among students attending Islamic
education is the difference in students' interest in foreign languages, namely Arabic
and English. In general, these two languages are important languages to master as
universal languages. There are different opinions about the reasons for the
comparison of students' interest in foreign languages: Arabic and English. This also
happened to students at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Miftahul Jihad Tande. Therefore,
researcher conducted this research to examine the comparison and causes of the
comparison of students' interest in learning English and Arabic at MA Miftahul
Jihad Tande. In this research, researcher used questionnaires and interview guides
as research instruments. In this research, researcher found that there was a
comparison of students' learning interest in English and Arabic. The research results
showed that there were 5 students who were strongly interested in Arabic and 2
students were strongly interested in English. In the interested category there are 25
students for Arabic and 25 students for English. In the moderately interested
category there are 5 students for English and 2 students for Arabic. Researcher also
found that there were 4 factors were causing the comparison of students' interest in
learning, namely: (1) interest in learning, (2) attention to learning, (3) motivation to
learn, and (4) knowledge. Through this research, researcher hope that teachers can
provide foreign language learning to students and students can learn foreign
languages according to their interests so that students' foreign language mastery can
be more optimal.

Salah satu fenomena yang terjadi di kalangan pelajar yang mengikuti pendidikan
Islam adalah adanya perbedaan minat pelajar terhadap bahasa asing yaitu bahasa
Arab dan bahasa Inggris. Padahal secara umum kedua bahasa ini merupakan bahasa
yang penting untuk dikuasai sebagai bahasa universal. Terdapat perbedaan
pendapat mengenai alasan perbandingan minat siswa terhadap bahasa asing: Arab
dan Inggris. Hal serupa juga terjadi pada siswa Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Miftahul
Jihad Tande. Oleh karena itu, peneliti melakukan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji
perbandingan dan penyebab perbandingan minat siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dan
bahasa Arab di MA Miftahul Jihad Tande. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan
kuesioner dan pedoman wawancara sebagai instrumen penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini
peneliti menemukan adanya perbandingan minat belajar siswa terhadap bahasa Inggris
